Executive Bio

Jim is a highly respected industry leader with an impressive career spanning nearly four decades, characterized by his unwavering commitment to innovation and sustainability across various facets of waste management, recycling, and waste-to-value initiatives.

In 2004, Jim joined Materials Lifecycle Management Company (MLMC), a startup focused on converting industrial and commercial waste materials into an alternative, engineered fuel product. This innovative endeavor aimed to reduce reliance on fossil fuels in industrial manufacturing processes, thereby mitigating environmental impacts and advancing sustainability. Jim decided to join this venture after a successful twenty year tenure in the waste industry, during which he built and sold his business to Waste Management, Inc.

In 2011, the United States Department of Environmental Protection (USEPA) established the Non-Hazardous Secondary Materials Rule. This groundbreaking Rule provided a federally approved pathway for the beneficial reuse of certain commercial and industrial waste materials for their energy value. MLMC played a crucial role in the process as their proven and documented systems and results were provided to the USEPA and likely paved the way for establishing a new industry utilizing waste materials for energy generation safely and environmentally responsible.

In 2015, as the Chief Operating Officer of MLMC, Jim spearheaded a national expansion initiative, leading the commissioning of additional manufacturing plants in strategic locations such as St. Louis, MO, and Tampa, FL. In 2020, Jim founded and is the President of Innovative Waste Strategies, LLC. (IWS), a Massachusetts-based materials management company specializing in repurposing waste materials generated in industrial and commercial manufacturing operations for beneficial reuse. IWS caters to a diverse customer base, ranging from single-facility manufacturing operations to large-scale companies with a national footprint.

Jim’s industry expertise is sought across various sectors, including energy-intensive industries, consulting firms, and private equity. In addition to his advisory role with consulting firms, Jim’s engagement with private equity firms highlights his proficiency in effectively navigating the intricacies of the waste-to-value sector. Private equity firms recognize Jim’s capability to provide valuable insights that can influence investment decisions and maximize returns in this specialized field.
